Search Engine Optimisation
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for.

In this day and age most of us use the Internet, whether it’s to book holidays, find information, access bank information and many other things. UK businesses are no different with most of them using the Internet to communicate, buy, sell and search - the latter almost always conducted through the search engines.
With more and more businesses using search engines like Google and Yahoo!, it is critical for them to achieve good rankings for their important search terms. A well-structured site, using best practice Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) principles, should help you reach this objective.
What Will You Learn On the Search Engine Workshop?
Our Search Engine Workshop has two key objectives:
1. How to properly structure your website ready for the Search Engines
2. Show you best-practice SEO techniques to deliver more traffic
Module 1: Site Design Module
In order to convert visitors to customers, you have to make sure that your site is well-structured, gets across the right message and offers the right calls to action. Our Site Design Module is designed as a fore-runner to the Search Engine Optimisation session and looks at best-practice site design. We look at navigation, colour schemes, layout, the online value proposition, tables, frames, site maps, wire frames, flash and much more. There is a big focus on SEO through Site Design, which will continue into the next module.
Outcomes
The idea is to give you a clear idea of how you should structure your site to create more enquiries and sales. From this module you should have a much clearer understanding of the design process and have the confidence to deal with web developers on design issues.
Module 2: Search Engine Marketing
Having gained a clear understanding of the principles behind site design, the rest of the day will be taken up with our Search Engine Optimisation module. The first section will focus on your business and start to understand the keywords that prospective buyers could use to find your company website. We will look at a variety of online keyword research tools and start looking at the keywords used by your competitors.
Once we have identified the keywords fro your website, it is time to start looking at how we start putting them into the site. Page titles, meta tags, content, breadcrumbs, internal links, alt tags and header tags will all be explored in this session. Finally, we will look at the influence of the Long Tail on your keyword research and identify the best ways of generating inbound links to your site.
Outcomes
You should have a clear idea of the terms your target audience uses and the techniques required to both optimise your website and to create inbound links.
